Abstract

The continuous rise of digital technologies has gradually blurred the line between personal and academic life. A variety of digital technologies have become embedded in the daily lives of students without a full understanding of their uses and effects. For students, a great deal of sociotechnical labour is inherent to the integration of digital elements into the way they do things. This article presents an ethnographic study of three student cases, exploring how they actually use digital technologies. The findings articulate the connection between the digitization of students’ sociotechnical practices, the specific tensions arising from this, the implicit digital labour generated, and its role in their digital well-being.
