Using Texts Produced by Generative AI for Training in How to Teach Writing Skills

Abstract

This paper presents an experiment carried out with future primary school teachers in France. To train them in the teaching of writing, texts produced by generative AI were used in addition to those written by primary school students and by the future teachers themselves, all based on the same instructions. The experiment leads teachers to do a close reading of students’ texts, and to think about the characteristics of the intended text and the goals students need to be given to get them work step by step on each element of the text to be produced.
